How much annual electric or oil-based energy could we cut in the Adirondacks by 2013 by adding renewables and reducing waste?:

Appliances Can Siphon Your Wallet

Appliances can be crazy. Some are 50 times greedier than others. Some stay on unless you unplug them. They don't care how much they cost you. There are so many of them in homes it's hard to get a grip on what they are doing to your savings.
If you have an old fridge or washer the chances are it is robbing you blind. You can still get rebates from New York for trading in your clunkers.
Most appliances are bought under duress. Your's is broken and you need a new one fast. Sale prices beckon. The best advice we've heard is to make a wish list, so you're ready before you need to buy.
We were pleasantly surprised to see how useful this Energy Star site is at presenting all kinds of appliance options.
